There are many types of construction machinery. Hydraulic excavators are one of the most important pieces of equipment among them.
It is said that the excavator’s hydraulic system is just like the blood circulation system of the human body. It contains the hydraulic tank, the main pump, the multi-way valve, the pipeline and the cylinder, and the motor.
All the components are specially crafted, with a much higher demand for maintenance. Any improper maintenance will lead to failures, downtime and cost. YUFAN listed out the following maintenance techniques for your reference.
1. Change hydraulic oil and filters regularly.
A good hydraulic oil contains various additives which prevent it from deteriorating. However, these additives will lose their effectiveness after a certain period. Therefore, it should be changed regularly to ensure the additives are working.
Filters can only absorb a limited amount of dirt particles and other contaminants from the oil.
For YUFAN high-end excavators, please change the hydraulic oil tank return filter every 1000 working hours. Clean the hydraulic oil tank filter when changing the hydraulic oil to keep the entire system clean.
When replacing the hydraulic oil filter, please check the bottom of the filter for metal particles or debris. Copper or iron chips indicate that the hydraulic pump, hydraulic motor or valve may have been damaged or will be damaged. If there are rubber-like, it indicates that the hydraulic cylinder seal is damaged.
2. Regular cleaning of oil tank dirt
Release water and sediment in the tank regularly to remove impurities. Replacing the hydraulic fluid is also important. This step keeps hydraulic fluid free from any harmful impurities. Please drain the hydraulic oil tank reservoir dirt every 250 working hours.
The entire hydraulic fluid must be replaced if the hydraulic fluid is contaminated, especially if the pump, cylinder, or motor is damaged.
3. Keep the working area clean
When replenishing or refilling the hydraulic oil in the tank, ensure that the surrounding area is clean. Only use a clean funnel or container.
When servicing the hydraulic system, only use clean plastic plugs for sealing the ends of the lines.
Check the condition of the tools used. They should also be very clean.
Here’s the inspection list when the excavator stops moving.
1. The main valve is probably blocked or not completely open.
2. The oil cylinder may have an internal leakage. Thus, resulting in the boom stopping.
3. The boom control valve is faulty.
4. The main pump oil pressure is not enough.
5. Check the pilot oil circuit of the hydraulic system.
The above are common causes when the boom action fails. However, the exact reason causes the error could be different for your excavator. You may talk to YUFAN customer representatives or schedule an online diagnosis to learn more.
In addition, the boom fails to move may because it can not be lifted at all. We have to make sure the pilot valve handle is not leaking.
Measure the oil pressure after. If the oil pressure is not under the standard value, it could cause the boom action failure. The specific reason could be the plunger seal damage.
